i still think its really funny that anyone would be surprised the majority of directors are straight white cis men. to study film you basically have to acknowledge and deal with the fact that the majority of the “classic” film directors were not only straight white cis men, but racist, misogynist, and homophobic to boot as well. and then deal with the fact that many other people in film are so willing to tiptoe around it/leave it unaddressed/be totally oblivious to or in denial of it. i just cant imagine that sort of atmosphere being the most welcoming. studying film or filmmaking in any academic capacity would be alienating as fuck tbh.
